Climate and Clothing

The warm Gulf Stream flowing along the coast of Norway means that the climate is much milder than other areas that are just as far north, e.g. Alaska or Greenland. January and February are the coldest months, with a mean temperature of -1.9 degrees Centigrade.

Dark period and Northern Lights
At this latitude, from the end of November to the end of January, the sun stays below the horizon. Many believe that we here at Lauklines live in total darkness during this period. However, you will be surprised just how light it can be, before, during and after this special time of the year.

Winter

Winter here at Lauklines is very special. Rapid changes in weather, magnificent light and dazzling forces of nature are guaranteed to impress. If you have never experienced “the blue hour”, a cold clear winter’s day is the ideal chance.

Spring
When winter finally has to give up to the warm rays of the sun, the last of the snow melts away and the green shoots compete to be the first to show themselves. The keen skier can have some of the finest experiences at this time of the year. Peak skiing dressed in shorts is far from unusual!

Summer
From June to August, the summer is here at Lauklines. July is the warmest month, with a mean temperature of 11.8 degrees Centigrade. The midnight sun is with us from the end of May to the end of July. If you have never experienced it before, it is a wondrous feeling to sit outside all night long and enjoy the sun in your face...

Autumn

When the fresh autumn air comes, we are ready to take a walk out into the forest and fields. Berry and mushroom picking in wonderful surroundings is a good form of recreation for everyone, old and young. The mountainsides take on a fantastic colour scheme. It is the ideal time to go hiking. Even though the mornings can be fairly cold, the sun warms up the air in the middle of the day, and creates a comfortable temperature.
